Uses: focal length, object and images distances, magnification, formation of images, the nature of an image for converging and diverging mirrors and lenses.
An optical bench has objects (like slides in a projector) to choose from.
Adding a lens or mirror and a screen allows you to move the components about and form an image of varying focus. The closer the screen is to the location of the image the clearer it is.
The object and image distances can be measured to determine the focal length. And you can measure the dimensions of the object and image to compute the magnification.
You actually see the image on the screen as you move things around. It changes size, focus, etc.
