New Physics Lab Kits - 1998

The new lab kit for the KET/SERC Physics course is now available. These kits have been designed to provide a hands-on component to the course. The kits will be used almost daily in the second half of the course starting in late January of 1999. A new, extended edition of the Physics Companion CD-ROM provides the related activities. You will receive this in January.

Due to the workshop approach used in this course, it is understandable that each computer team (3 students) will need its own kit. In addition, two items need to be purchased by each school. These are items that include enough materials for the whole class. Understanding the financial woes of the schools involved, every effort has been made to keep the costs as low as possible.

These kits can be ordered through Arbor Scientific, the company that has been working with us on lab kits for ten years. They have been very dependable and helpful and can handle your orders through the usual school purchase order system.

Arbor has assigned the catalog number KE-1000 to this kit. The price per kit is $144.00 plus shipping. The additional one per school items cost $45.00. You can reach Arbor by phone at 1-800-367-6695. Their mailing address is:

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR KIT BY THE END OF JANUARY, PLEASE MAKE YOUR ORDERS BEFORE DECEMBER 15.

The components of the kit are listed below. You may notice a few items that appeared in the old kits. Some of these are identical items, others are upgrades of older items. The alligator clip hook-up wires for example are much heavier gauge in order to allow us to make accurate measurements of current and voltage. The few items that didn't change could be used as replacements in the case of loss or damage to the new equipment.
