Note that the dotted lines indicate that there is an instantaneous jump between two velocities. This is in fact impossible. The car would actually have to speed up or slow down from one speed to the other. There should actually be a short curve from one level on the graph to the other to indicate this. We will ignore this in most cases to simplify our graphs.
