It's just not that simple. We found a positive acceleration when the cart was speeding up while traveling to the right and again when it was slowing down while traveling to the left.
We got the same ambiguity for negative accelerations.
The sign of the acceleration indicates a combination of two things - the direction of motion and what's happening to the speed.
