The Physics Companion (The PC) is a set of HTML documents, images, movies, and animations which are viewed using one of the two major Internet browsers - Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. These browsers evolve very quickly adding new features and replacing old ones. The PC has similarly evolved to take advantage of these changing features. As a result, some features of the PC will not run under older versions of these browsers.
To ensure that no such conflicts occur, up to date versions of both browsers have been provided on the KET Technical Reference CD-ROM. At this time, the minimum browser versions are Netscape 7.0 and Internet Explorer 5.5. If you do not have a suitable version of one of these browsers installed please close your browser now and install the newer version provided. They can be found in the root directory of the KET Technical Reference CD-ROM.
To install Netscape 7.0, use My Computer to find the root directory on the Tech CD. Double click on Netscape_7.exe or similar name (You may not see the .exe.) Follow the installation instructions.
To install Internet Explorer 5.5, use My Computer to find the root directory on the Tech CD. Double click on ie5setup.bat or similar name. Follow the installation instructions.
The Tech CD also includes some other components that you'll need. The directions for their installation follow. You will install them (if they are not already installed on your system) one at a time. Clicking on the underlined, link below will take you to the installation instructions.
If you are not familiar with the operation of your computer, you should probably seek the assistance of someone who is. The work we have to do here takes a very short time if you are experienced with locating and executing files. But it can be frustrating if you are inexperienced.
