Aristius Fiscus Literary friend to Horace. Mentioned as Horace's "twin" in Epistle 1.10. However, he refuses to save Horace from "the boor" in Satire I.9. Also mentioned in Ode I.22
Brutus A leader, with Cassius, of the conspiracy to assassinate Caesar. Defeated at Phillipi in 42 B.C. Ode II.7
Chole Yet another object of Horace's affection in Ode I.23.
Gaius Cilnius Maecenas Friend and supporter of Horace (as well as Vergil). Also friend and advisor to Octavian. Horace Satire I.9, Odes I.1
Leuconoe Woman who Horace attempts to advise/woo in Ode I.ll.
Lucius Licinius Murena Brother-in-law of Maecenas. Consul with Augustus in 23 B.C. He was executed for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy against Augustus. Horaces advises him, in Ode II. 10, to seek a "golden mean."
Lydia Object of Horace's desire in Ode I,13. He is trying to take her away from Telephus. May or may not be the same Lydia mentioned in Ode I.25.
Pompeius Ally and friend of Horace under Brutus at the Battle of Phillipi. Ode II.7
Postumus Name given to boys who are born after the death of their father. The particular identity of the one addressed in Ode II.14 is unknown.
Pyrrha Woman who is Horace's object of desire in Ode I.5.
Quintus Dellius Object of Ode II.3. Called "the circus rider of the civil wars" by Messalla. He was always shifting his allegiances.
Torquatus Identity uncertain. An orator, Torquatus, is addressed in Epistle I.5. Perhaps this is a son of Lucius Manlius Torquatus, consul in 65 B.C. Ode IV.7
Tullus The third king of Rome. Built the first Senate House. Reputed to have been a ferocious, warlike individual.
Varius Rufus Epic and tragic poet. Very close friend of Horace. He introduced Horace to Maecenas. Satire I.9

Viscus There were two literary brothers by this name. Both were friends of Horace and Maecenas. Satire I.9
