Latin Nouns 1: What is a Noun?

 
 As part of a sentence, a noun is a word that names something. 

The red words in the following sentences are all nouns. 

 
Jane runs.  Jane sees the dog
 The workers ate lunch. Paul gave the ball to Bill
The students took the train to the city Jim climbed the walls of the fort
The subway runs beneath the streets. Money was desired by Mark
