Translating Degrees of Adjectives - KEY

  1. Mercator est tristis et senex est tristissimus.
    The merchant is sad and the old man is very sad.

  2. Canis erat ferox; porcus erat ferior; leo erat ferocissimus.
    The dog was fierce, the pig was rather fierce, the lion was very fierce.

  3. Amicus fabulam longissimam narravit.
    A friend told a very long story.

  4. Murmillones erant fortes sed retiarii erant fortissimi.
    The (Gallic) gladiators were strong but the net men were the strongest.

  5. Urbs est pulchra sed mons est pulcherrimus omnium.
    The city is beautiful but the mountain is most beautiful of all.

  6. Nos Romani sumus multô fortiores quam vos Graeci!
    We Romans are much stronger than you Greeks!

  7. Aurelia laetior est. Cornelius laetior Aureliâ est.
    Aurelia is rather happy. Cornelius is happier than Aurelia.

  8. Metella est pulcherrima. Estne Cornelia pulchrior quam Metella?
    Metella is very beautiful. Is Cornelia more beautiful than Metella?

  9. Cerberus est fortissimus canis.
    Cerberus is a very strong dog.

  10. Iovis est potentior quam Iuno; est potentissimus omnium deorum.
    Jupiter is more powerful than Juno; he is the most powerful of all the gods.
