There were all kinds of shops to choose from in Rome. Many places advertised themselves with signs, much like we still do today centuries later. A butcher might have advertised his shop with a leg of pork outside his door. Others had notices painted on walls, such as "Zosimus sells pots, particularly for liquamen" from a Pompeii shop.
