Hannibal lead the Carthagean army straight into Italy through the Pyrennes and Alps. This feet alone has provided him recognition in the collective memory of history. He commanded several key battles within Roman territory that threaten the very soveriegnty of the Republic. His cunning and skill could not be meet by the Romans. His conquest of the Italian penninsula was cut short, however, by Roman attack lead by Scipio in Carthage. Hannibal and his armies were recalled by Carthage to give aid. Scipio, with the help of Masinissa, Prince of the Numidian Kingdom, defeated Hannibal in 202 BC at the battle of Zama.
