You CAN play Scrabble in Latin!
- Use a traditional scrabble gameboard and tiles.
- Place stickers over the tiles that will not work well in Latin, such as J W Y . The letters K and Z are also used infrequently and can be replaced.
- Randomly label the stickers with the letters E I A T S N and R .
- Current values on the tiles can be maintained, or you can change the values to those suggested below to correspond more readily with a letter's frequency of use in Latin (the less frequently a letter occurs, the higher its point value should be).
- Keep a Latin/English dictionary handy for resolving conflicts (I also allow students to look up words if the game is progressing too slowly).
