Chapter 35 Syntax Scavenger Hunt

This reinforcement activity is ungraded, but points are suggested if you want to turn it into a graded classwork or homework activity or a speed competition for fun. Open Ecce Romani to Chapter 35, "Crime", and locate each of these grammatical "treasures." Write out the word, give the line # in which you found it, and add other specific information as required below. You can print out or adapt the chart linked below to record your finds.
  1. Two present active participles -- include the case, sing/plural, and what each one modifies
  2. Two perfect passive participles that are not part of a perfect passive verb -- include the case, sing/plural, and what each modifies
  3. Two nouns (exclude pronouns) in the Dative case -- include sing/plural
  4. Two superlative adverbs
  5. Two superlative adjectives -- include the case, sing/plural, and what each modifies
  6. Two comparative adjectives -- include the case, sing/plural, and what each modifies
  7. Two Ablatives of Means (i.e. "agent-without-a-brain") and one Ablative of Manner
  8. Three different prepositions that require the Accusative case
  9. Three perfect active verbs in lines 15-20 -- include a translation
  10. Three perfect passive verbs (that are not deponent) -- include a translation
  11. One complementary infinitive -- include the verb that it complements
  12. Challenge Syntax: Find a partitive genitive!
