How to Use the Web Site

WHY?

Announcements
Explanations - you definitely don't want to miss these. Whenever I get interesting questions from students that I feel have general importance, I will detail the data.
Breaking news about the world of the Classics such as new archaeological finds.
Seasonal greetings and suggestions about how to enjoy the various holidays with a Latin flavor.
Student showcase - see what your classmates are doing.
Tests will be posted about 4 lessons prior to the assigned day. These need to be downloaded and printed out for each student. All tests will be sent to KET for grading. See the Technology section for details re printing from the Internet.
Quizzes are designed for the student to take on the Internet. If you have too few computers per students, you may download these and print them out. However, this is extra work for the facilitator since he/she will need to correct the data and enter a grade in the grade book. If a quiz is graded, the facilitator needs to "open" the quiz prior to the student attempting to take the quiz on Internet.
Ungraded activities abound on the Latin II site so students may self-direct themselves to the areas in which they feel the greatest need. I know that some material is covered swiftly and for some, it may be too fast. For this reason, I have created many reinforcement materials. Students may work together or alone on any of these activities. If the facilitator is comfortable with a little organized chaos, perhaps they could work together with a little friendly competition.
Grade Book is a program that allows students to see averages as soon as grades are posted. Grades for quizzes, etc. that students complete on the Internet, are entered automatically.

Anytime you have access to an Internet connected computer - ok, maybe that is a bit excessive but do try to access the site regularly.

On the arch -

Login	Tells the computer who you are; allows facilitator to access the open quiz section, tests, keys, facilitator bulletins, enter grades, run grade reports, send message to teacher.
Forum	Discussion area - share comments with classmates
Gallery	Art, music, literature with classical references.

Notes to Teacher

This feature is used by faclilitators and students to send messages to the teacher and Latin assistants or other KET staff.

A few notes:

Facilitators must "open" a quiz for students to be able to access the quiz/homework assignments. This allows the student to access a quiz/homework at home or at school at a time when the facilitator feels it is appropriate to do so. This function offers the facilitator control over the integrity of a quiz/homework assignment. A student with a home computer cannot view a quiz/homework assignment before it has been opened. Since homework assignments may be submitted more than one time, you may want to allow students to access these at home.

To "open" a quiz/homework assignment:
- Connect to the Agenda page for the lesson on which the quiz/homework assignemnt is assigned.
- Log in.
- Clock on Quizzes.
- Select the appropriate quiz/homework assignment. They are listed in sequence from bottom to top, approximately as they appear on the syllabus (according to the left hand column which lists the lesson days that correspond to when the activity is available).
- Click on "open."
- Log out. Students may then log in from the appropriate lesson and access the quiz/homework assignment.
You may also "close" a quiz/homework assignment at the end of the class period, which keeps students from accessing that quiz/homework assignment after class. The "open" and "close" are helpful if you want to give one student the opportunity to take a quiz early (for example, one student working at a faster pace than others in the class), and not allow the other students access.
To access data that is posted on a given lesson, one must go to that lesson on the Agenda. Use the previous or next button at the top of the Agenda, or the Previous Work button on the arch. For the 'Previous Work' button feature to work correctly, you must first enter your school calendar using the 'Calendar' link found under Faciltiator Login. (See Facilitator Duties and Responsibilities, item 12, in the Implementation section for more information on entering your school calendar.)
