Grade Policy Tests .........................................................................35% |
Student work will be monitored by the classroom facilitator and the teacher. Quizzes will be graded by the Internet program and student grades will be automatically entered in the grading program. KET will enter all test grades. Other projects, such as the Inn Project and the Newspaper, will also be graded by me. The grading program on the Internet will keep your averages. You will need to manually enter those grades which the grading program cannot assign, such as homework.
Late Work
The student is responsible to the facilitator to do work as assigned. When a facilitator decides circumstances merit, late work may be accepted. In general, late work will be penalized 5 points per day. Material to be mailed will receive the same deduction based on the day of the postmark. If absent for a graded test or quiz, the facilitator sets the make up time. When absent, students may connect to the Latin II web site (www.dl.ket.org/latin2/) to see what is being missed and continue with assignments.
Tests (35%)
Tests will be numbered: I, II, III, etc. There will be about 10-12 during the school year. Some will review one chapter, some two chapters, and some several chapters, depending on the amount of material covered in the chapter. You will be tested on vocabulary, derivatives, grammar, translation, and culture. Language is cumulative, and thus you are responsible for everything taught you to the time of the test, whether it be in Latin I or Latin II.
All exams should be taken within 48 hours of the assigned date.
Facilitators: Please send all tests to KET for grading. Once the graded tests have been returned to you, share them with the students so they may see what they can learn from what they have missed. Once students have noted their errors though, please collect the tests again. Tests will change from year to year, but some passages may remain. Also, you should have the tests in your files in case a parent questions a child's grade. It is advisable when mailing tests to send a photocopy-not the original.
Quizzes (30%)
Very short (10- to 20-minute) quizzes will be given during each chapter and will generally cover current vocabulary or one grammar point presented recently in class. Quizzes are designed to help students understand areas of weakness and seek help prior to tests. All quizzes will be on the Internet.
Optional Assignments (Test or Quiz)
Additional Activities are posted on the web site under the CETERA link. No points are added to the overall possible points for the class until a student's grade has been entered in that grading slot. That student then sees the overall points increase; the quality of the entry determines whether the work will raise or lower the student's grade. Students may choose to do these assignments after required work is completed, and should not be undertaken without intent to do well. The facilitator may require any of the optional activities as deemed appropriate for each class. An optional homework grade slot worth 20 points has been entered for each chapter for you to use at your discretion. There are also two optional quiz grade slots worth 50 points each, and one test grade slot worth 100 points.
Class/Homework (35%)
Class/Homework (opera) may be conpleted on-line, and grades will be automatically entered into the grading program. Students may submit homework assignments more than one time, as they learn from their mistakes. If students do not complete the homework on-line, the facilitator must check the assignments for completion and manually enter the grades. It is highly recommended that students complete the homework on-line so that they may receive the feedback and suggestions as to what they might have entered incorrectly.
