Junior Classical League is a national organization that fosters interest in Latin and Roman civilization among Latin students. It sponsors contests on the local, state and national levels. Many of you are familiar with it from years past. We at KET wanted to find a way for our satellite students to become a part of this group. Geri Dutra, the coordinator of the American Classical League (a group of adults interested in promoting the classics) has given us the following advice.
Satellite students may join NJCL with full privileges since Jane Smith and Joan Jahnige hold membership ACL. KET holds a chapter membership for NJCL and ACL. The facilitator does not need to join NJCL or ACL for students to be members. Students need only to pay $1.00 each and whatever fees your local chapter requires.
Why should a student join? This is an exciting way for students to meet other Latin students, have fun and gain recognition competing with other students from many other schools and states, learn more about Latin and stretch ones interests. The competitions are truly fun. No grades are involved, yet when a student earns a medal or recognition, it is helpful on a college application. Simply participating shows an interviewer that this individual is not content with status quo and would be an asset to a college or university.
