Cumulonimbus (cumulus, -i, m. "mass";
nimbus, -i, m. "cloud") clouds can look like huge anvils. They are often called
"thunderheads," and cause heavy rain. From Latin, the words are translated "column rain."
When they are most violent, they can produce tornadoes. They are seen from 1 to 3 miles up
in the air, and sometimes come down to the surface of the earth.
