Cirrocumulus (cirrus, -i, m. "curl"; cumulus, -i, m. "mass") clouds. They, like cirrus clouds, are made of ice crystals due to their height in the air. They are around 6 miles above the earth's surface. Since they are in the form of a columnar mass, they take the Latin name "cumulus."
