A hero, as today, could be seen as a sign of wisdom, truth, and justice when all around was dark. Much like today's heroes, the heroes of mythology were flawed men. they would not always be wise, strong, or courageous, but their qualities were such that they were the example of manhood in a time when moral instruction was important.
