Grade Report and Policy

The following is a copy of the grading policy for this class as outlined in the student guide. More directions will be given in videos. Please make copies of the grade sheet for each grading period.

Grade Policy
3 components:
Tests 35%
Quizzes & Optional Work 30%
Homework 35%

Your work will be monitored by your classroom facilitator and me. Your actual letter grade for a given grading period will be calculated by your school's grading procedures.

Late Work
If you are absent from class for any reason (sickness, appointment, school assembly, sports event, snow day, etc.), you need to get your assignment from the Homework Assignment Check List found in your student guide.

You are always responsible for having your assignment done when you return to class except in extreme situations that will be determined by your facilitator. For quizzes and tests given during the class period, your facilitator will decide whether your absence is excused and when you will be able to make up the assignment.

It is most important that you complete all assignments on time, because I will go over most homework the following day in class. Late work should receive a penalty. Assignments completed from one day to one week after they are due should receive one-half credit. Work completed more than one week past due date will not be awarded any credit.

If you are connected to the Internet at home, you can access the Latin 1 front page (www.dl.ket.org/latin1) for the Agenda and Opera (homework). But most importantly, you can retrieve documents to assist you in organizing and completing your class work. If these would be helpful, go to the arch (middle of front page), click on Info, find the following lists of grades and the individual due day:

To help you organize your class work, refer to the Homework Assignments and Class Syllabus, included in your student guide. Tests (35%) (See Tests Check List!)

Tests generally follow after two chapters. The first test (Test #1) is over one chapter. Some tests are comprehensive, as over a unit or a review section.

Tests are divided into two or three major sections of testing materials: vocabulary, selected passage from the chapter's story to translate, and grammar exercises. Some tests will have the principal parts of nouns, verbs, and adjectives as part of the test, while other tests will have the principal parts as extra credit points on the test. The document, "Copia Verborum," located in the Internet/Verba has a list of words and their principal parts from each chapter. You should print a copy and put it in your notebook. The date of each test will be announced in advance, and study guides will precede most tests. The test study guides will be found on the Agenda page several days before the test. The tests will cover items in the study guide and any material presented in the class instruction, the textbook, or the language activity workbook. A variety of types of exercises will be included in testing-vocabulary, derivatives, grammar (syntax), translation, and cultural material.

Quizzes/Optional (30%) (See Quizzes and Optional Check Lists!)

Most every chapter will have a quiz, "Quaestio." Quaestiones are open book quizzes over any material from that chapter, and are taken on the Internet under Login, or printed by your facilitator. Other quiz grades will come from grammar charts just presented in class, mythology assignments, assigned holiday activities, announced Internet chapter quizzes, and optional assignments (see next paragraph). They will always be announced unless student performance creates a need for surprise quizzes.

Students may choose to do optional assignments after Lesson 160, only after all required work is completed, or may be assigned them at the discretion of the facilitator. Answer keys and grading guidelines for optional assignments will be provided to the facilitator, who will determine the student's grade.

Homework (30%) (See Homework Check List!)

Homework grades will consist of:

These will be graded for completion rather than for accuracy. Students will have the opportunity to correct their homework, and submit answers again electronically. Also, students may check their answers to the exercises and activities by asking the facilitator for correct answers.
