The Physics course offers students a general preparation in physics. While the appropriate use of mathematics is employed to most efficiently describe natural phenomena, a considerable effort is made to apply physical principles to everyday phenomena. In this way the course serves a dual role in that it will prepare students for a more mathematically intensive college physics course while making the principles learned more meaningful and useful in everyday life. The new workshop format of this course relies heavily on a CD-ROM provided as a part of the course materials and access to computers to run this software. This course may be taken on a full-year schedule, or in a block schedule, one-semester format. * For Kentucky schools, this course is offered through KET for the 2009-2010 school year, with no tuition fee. Please fill out the KET enrollment form. |

AP® Physics B, and Honors Physics are all based on the set of 27 CD-ROMs (14 for Honors), or 4 DVDs (2 for Honors). Multimedia-based instruction includes lectures, demonstrations, and problem solving. Students work independently, with minimal need for supervision at their school. The teacher is available via e-mail and phone when help is needed. Tests are graded by the teacher; homework is graded by computer. With the proper supervision the course materials may also be used with small groups or full classes. Both courses use the same college textbook. AP® Physics B is a rigorous preparation for the AP® Physics B test, and the Medical College Aptitude Test. It uses college-level syllabi, homework, and tests. It follows the College Board's guidelines for AP® Physics B, and includes a virtual lab. (Full year.) Honors Physics is for students who want to learn physics at a high level, but who are not interested in the full AP® Physics B program. It features a shortened syllabus, as well as somewhat less demanding homework and tests. (Full year or Block schedule.) *For Kentucky students, applications for tuition assistance are available through the KHEAA Mary Jo Young Scholarship. |
