Relief, Great Mosque and Hospital of Divrigi,
1229.
You will find very little in the way of representational Islamic sculpture because of religious laws against making images that could be used for idolatry. Therefore, most sculpture is abstract or stylized, such as this relief on one of Turkey's most decorated mosques. Intricate patterns and geometry are woven together to almost produce movement and contain Arabic words enshrined in the stone.
