Make your own African Masks |
Below are templates for African Masks, just to give you a point of departure. As you design your masks, keep in mind that authentic tribal masks have certain attributes in common: they're often highly abstracted; often the masks have dominant geometric elements or repeated lines. How can you use color in your masks? Texture?
The simplest possibility for design is a colored drawing. Consider ways to expand this project by the medium you choose. Perhaps you can experiment with collage, clay, wood, or paper mache. What about multiple or repeated mask images? The possibilities are endless.
