Dorothea Lange, this photograph, taken in 1936, demonstrates that a photograph is capable of emotional; power equal to that of any painting. The image is a powerful portrait of the state of destitution. The woman's family had just sold their tent, their only shelter, to buy food when this powerful image from the Great Depression, was taken.
