Romea und Julian

Project Introduction

Over the next three weeks you will be listening to and working with the German radio-play "Romea & Julian." Not wanting to give away too much of the story, you can expect a modern version of the classic Shakespearian play with lots of twists and surprises. You will be asked to listen to the play, answer a series of questions, keep a vocabulary journal and complete a final project. We hope you will enjoy the story and this project.

NOTE: In order to complete the project, your computer must be able to play RealAudio files!
(The recordings and text are a co-production of Utbildningsradion, Finlands Svenska Radio, Norsk Rikskringkasting, Danmarks Radio and Roman Schatz Ltd.)

Project Objectives

  1. students will become familiar with the popular form of a radio play.
  2. students will demonstrate listening and reading comprehension of dramatic material.
  3. will produce a written piece that demonstrates their understanding of the play.

Project Instructions

I. Daily Activities
Each day is divided into several activities:

  1. Listen and read the part of the play assigned for that day.
  2. Write five sentences using the new vocabulary from the vocabulary list.
  3. Write answers to the daily questions in your notebook.
  4. Log-in to the German 3 web site and take the daily project quiz. (Each daily quiz will only be open for two class days.)

II. Video Quizzes
On day 6 and day 11 of the project, you will watch a video summarizing the story so far and take a longer quiz.

III. Writing Assignment
Your final writing assignment will not be revealed until later. Just keep a daily record of the story and questions, complete all of the assignments, and you will not have a problem with the assignment.

Project Evaluation

Daily Quizzes:
10 parts x 10 points each
= 100 points
Video Quizzes:
2 quizzes x 50 points each
= 100 points

= 50 points
= 50 points
