Introduction
As a student of foreign language, you have learned that the world is "getting smaller." We can e-mail people around the world, check out a restaurant menu in Switzerland, or take a virtual tour of a museum in Germany with a click of the mouse. As a result of easier communication, the world is also getting smaller economically and geographically. Chances are in your career future, there will be an international world connection.

One of the decisions that have been made on a worldwide basis is that there are certain cultural and natural sites in the world of "outstanding universal value" which should be protected for future generations.

These sites appear according to country on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Assignment
This activity will take you to 20 of the 23 sites selected in Germany for the WCH list. There are 3 parts to this assignment:
1. Print out the map of Germany. You will see that 20 locations are indicated. Using the World Heritage List (Welterbeliste) for sites in Germany, identify each of these locations and label them on the map. You may have to search the web for their location or the item may be close to a city you are already familiar with. Your classroom map or the map in the textbook may also help.
2. Print out the work sheet. For each site, you are asked to find an answer to a question. You may have to visit more than one web site to find the answer. Write the answer on your worksheet.
3. Log in to the Quiz Shop and enter the answers from your map and worksheet. This activity is worth 60 optional points in the Quiz Category.
You have 3 class periods to complete the search, label the map, complete the worksheet, and log in to take the quiz. But the greater goal is to give you a sense of how these sites go beyond political boundaries in importance. Viel Glück!
